GoutPal Research Draft

This draft is part of an experiment in open publishing. In future, this subsection will be replaced by summary notes. It will tell you about the problems and questions that this draft article will answer. But, all notes below will be restricted to committed GoutPal supporters. I’m starting a discussion about this, next time I visit the gout forum.

I’m focusing on the ‘More Help’ subsection at this time.

GoutPal Tags is my second set of working notes. It follows my previous GoutPal Workflow notes. Originally, I published both these articles on Patreon. However, I am closing my Patreon Page, and I’ll explain why later.

I am currently working on organizing gout groups sections of websites. I’ll do this here, as part of a GoutPal Story article. Then, I’ll create individual pages, wizard, survey, and summary for GoutPal Groups pages. Working title for replacement to ‘Which Gout Group am I in’ is ‘Choose Your GoutPal Support Group’.

GoutPal Workflow

GoutPal Workflow is aimed at all GoutPal Patrons. It is my notes about topics that I am working on. Originally, it was published as a Patreon patron-only post. I have dumped Patreon in favor of providing patron-only content on this website.

Currently, I am finalizing details of how my patronage scheme will work. Therefore, despite being tagged ‘GoutPal Patrons Only’, this article is visible to all.

Help me make GoutPal For You

Thank You for your Patronage photo

Help me make GoutPal For You is my introduction to a new funding initiative. In this article, I explore why seeking funding is relevant and necessary. Later, I’ll follow it up with a specific progress plan.

GoutPal started as my research notes. Then, those notes helped me to understand and control my gout. Over the years, I’ve learned to manage my gout. As a result, my published notes help thousands of other sufferers. I no longer need GoutPal. But, I love helping gout sufferers. So, rather than sell GoutPal, I want to refocus it for gout sufferers, rather than for me.

GoutPal’s Getting Personal

Personal Learning photo

Last year I started moving Gout Pal Interactive gout forum to a new platform. The old platform was not user friendly enough. Also, I wanted to grow the forum within GoutPal brand. So, the hyphenated form was no longer suitable.

At the time, though I was driven by improving user services, my focus was on technical elements. Now, my emphasis on all improvements to GoutPal is to make it personal. I introduced this in GoutPal Visitor Experience Optimization. Now, I need to make sure that every GoutPal page is aimed at a specific group of gout sufferers.

GoutPal Gout Forum New Direction

Clearing Log Jam photo

I still have lots to do with GoutPal’s Gout Network Relaunch.

My gout forum is working well at GoutPal.net. Unfortunately, it is not growing as fast as the old forum is shrinking. That’s not surprising.

There is a phenomenal amount of admin work with this type of change. I think I’ve finished changing all links from the old forum to the new one. But, I’ve barely started reviewing old discussions and moving those to the new forum.

The biggest reason for delay is being overwhelmed by gout help requests. The solution to that problem came unexpectedly.

GoutPal Plans For 2016

With GoutPal’s forum move on track, I’ve taken a moment to prepare some outline plans for early 2016.

Taking GoutPal as a whole, I’m please that my plans for 2015 have worked out. Some aspects could have gone better, but overall figures are good. Last year, I decided to focus on helping as many gout sufferers as possible. I stopped all attempts to improve revenue. Instead, I wanted to regain lost website traffic.

Ending 2015 on 200k visitors per month is good. Much better than my peak of just over 150k, three and a half years ago. But, by the 5th anniversary of my accident, I want 250k per month. That’s my target for April 2016, rising to half million by end of year.
